We cite the 2021 International Residential Code where relevant, but local jurisdictions adopt and amend the IRC differently. The minimum slope, structural sizing, or installation detail that applies to your specific project is whichever your local building department has adopted — not necessarily what is on this site. Always verify with your local building department before specifying or building.

No engineering

The calculator returns mathematically correct outputs (rafter lengths, surface areas, slope conversions). It does not engineer your roof. Sizing rafters and beams for non-prescriptive conditions (long spans, heavy snow, ridge beams, cathedral ceilings) requires engineered design. Hire a licensed structural engineer for any non-trivial structural decision.
